     Gallery 8 - 2007: A trip to USA

[Chicago 2007]
And so, in 2007 I got an USA visa. My main destination was Chicago, where lives my sister Billy with her family.
In fact I had to come three months earlier to withness my cousin's wedding, but I coud not.
Anyway, it's better late than never, right? I arrived in the early September.
This is my very first picture in Chicago, at the river, under Sears Tower.

[Chicago 2007]
311 South Wacker Drive is the most beautiful skyscraper for me - both outside and within. It is situated next to Sears Tower and is about half of Sears' lenght, but when you stand between these two towers and look above, they seem equal hight.

[Chicago 2007]
One of the new Chicago attractions is Millenium Park. It has an open concert stage, two towers-waterfalls with faces of people shown on them, and a big mirror bean, that reflects the downtown.

[Chicago 2007]
Near Millenium Park is situated Buckingham fountain - one of the main sights of the city. After sunset the fountain is being light up in many colours, under the sounds of music.

[Cleveland 2007]
But Chicago was just one of the four cities that I visited during my one-month-stay in USA. Here on this picture me and my cousin Atanas are in Cleveland, where he lives and works, along with his wife Fawn Marie. I arrived there on his birthday and here we test seven types of beer in a local brewery.

[Niagara Falls 2007]
On my second day in Cleveland we travelled to Niagara falls. The way was about four hours in each direction, but it is worth it. It was one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited. The weather was cloudy and two or three times there was a light rain, but we had great time.

[Niagara Falls 2007]
As far as I understood the Niagara Falls is working on 30% of it's capacity. The water falls with great power and must be "curbed", so not to break the runway so fast. Either way the falls is moving quickly to Canada.
Anyway I have not checked is this information true.

[Niagara Falls 2007]
This is on board of Maid of the Mist - the ferry that took us almost under the very Niagara falls. Normally the ferry does not work at this time of the year, but the weather was good enought and it was still working.

[Cleveland 2007]
We returned from Niagara Falls about 10:30 PM and I made some night pictures of Cleveland. This is the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame, that I was about to visit soon.

[Cleveland 2007]
Sorry, but no pictures were allowed inside the Rock 'n' Roll museum.
There are exhibitions of many bands and artists and I was mostly impressed by those of The Beatles, Queen, Elvis, Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd. They included original lyrics, guitars, scene clothes and many other things from the different periods of the artists. The corner of Pink Floyd contained bricks from the 1990th Roger Watters' concert in Berlin.

[Cleveland 2007]
I can say that Cleveland is small and nice city, but I heard people to complain of the life there. Anyway my opinion is an opinion of a visitor. The city looks quiet and somehow easy.
Here I am before a submarine - this one is the record holder for USA during the World War II by most sank enemy ships.

[Boston 2007]
My next stop was Boston.
This, according to everybody, is the most European city in USA.
To see the sights of Boston you will need one or two days.

[Boston 2007]
The building behind me is the Boston Christian Science Center. It is situated on a vast square and in the other corner of this square there is a church of Jesus Scientist.
Maybe here I should say that I have seen several churches with this name in some cities in USA. I did not take interest in it, but the name is very strange for me. Science and religion were never friends.

[Boston 2007]
One of the most beautiful buildings in Boston is Trinity church. It is situated next to the highest skyscraper in the city and is reflecting in it's windows very interestingly.
This day there was movie shooting before the church.

[Boston 2007]
Bunker Hill. This is the place where the only Boston battle took place. It was for liberation from English dominion. Nowadays there is 67 meters tall monument with a small museum.

[Boston 2007]
And finaly one picture form Cambridge, which is northern of Charles river. There are the university of Harvard and MIT.

[New York 2007]
Here I am in New York. I can say two things about Manhatan. The first one is that the orientation is very easy, because most of the streets and avenues has names of numbers. The second one is that the isle is enormous. No, not it's size - maybe you can cross it's lenght on food for half a day - but it's population. It is frightfully to think that there are around you twice more people than there are in your native country.
The first of of totaly three days, that I was in New York, I was feeling unsecure.
The building behind me is the United Nations.

[New York 2007]
Everybody has seen the New York skyline and knows how the city looks outside. I will not give many explanations - like I did not give so far. I will give you just part of my impressions. Here I am on the main floor of Empire State Building, which is the highest building in New York after September 11. The waiting ant the security checkings are boaring and are cutting of the amusement.

[New York 2007]
But the view from the top is worth it. I even got an audioguide (the thing on my neck). It was almost sunset, so many of the pictures are not so good. There were many people and it was hard to find place to watch and take pictures.

[New York 2007]
Times Square. Honestly, I was sceptic about it. I did not expect to be impressed, but when I found myself there after sunset, I was. In fact there are mostly advertisements. I was there just at the end of the work day and suddenly the place became very crowded.

[New York 2007]
One of the places you have to visit by all means in New York is the Isle of Liberty. But maybe not many people can make a boast of having strong rain there. And if not, you will never think of bying a raincoat. This green poncho has exactly that function and honestly I like it very much.

[New York 2007]
I cannot believe, but I could visit all scheduled places in New York for two days. Of coure that did not include the museums. I did not have time for them and I can spend much time in a good museum.
The Brooklyn bridge was one of my last stops.

[New York 2007]
Rockefeller Center is an interesting place. I could not visit it's observatory, from where all the city can be seen, but either way I already was on the top of Empire State Building. The advantage of Rockefeller is that you can see Empire State Building from there.
The square at Rockefeller is very magnificent an even ornated. There are piles with many national flags, including the Bulgarian.
The girl with me is Zdravka - a Bulgarian friend from New York, which unfortunately I could see just for a while.

[Chicago 2007]
After ten-days-trip I returned to Chicago. Here on this picture I with my two nieces, Isabella and Vanessa, are before one of the eight in the whole world Bahai temles.

[Chicago 2007]
This is the oldest existing Bahai temple in the world. Every temple is with totaly different architecture than the others. The Bahai religion welcomes all world religions and they are reprezented on the column behind us.

[Chicago 2007]
The day I visited the Bahai temple I was lucky to see the night show of the Buckgingham fountain. It was beautiful, but I cannot describe the changing colors on the background of the classical music.

[Chicago 2007]
In fact that was the only time when I was in the downtown at dark. I have seen night pictures of Chicago before. Well, what I saw then was almost the same, but in real size and much influential. Unfortunately this picture cannot describe it well.

[Chicago 2007]
Here I am in Oak Park - a town in Chicago area. The house behind me is the one where Earnest Hemingway was born. Nevertheless that he had lived there for very short period of time, the house is converted into museum.

[Chicago 2007]
At the last day, which I visited the downtown, I climbed on the top of Sears Tower. This is the third highest skyscraper in the world, but currently there are new ones building (in Asia).
From the top I looked and recognized the places I visited, and they were not just few in number. I already wrote about some of them, but there are many more. Maybe some day I will put more pictures on the site, but not now.
